Agenda
- Recap off cycle board actions and votes
- Planned Discussions from scheduled visiting parties/ATC Partners
- Sequeerity LLC
- Sam and Quinlan joined the meeting to discuss improvements to the Anime Twin Cities’ harassment policy and on-site response practices.
- This specific policy can be found here: https://www.animedetour.com/policies/
- They raised concerns that certain phrases in the current policy may be too vague, specifically: Inappropriate physical contact and unwanted physical attention.
- They personally advocate for more direct language, sexual harassment, sexual assault, rape. Unwanted attention can be spun by a lot of people
- One representative shared that they had witnessed a situation last year involving sexual harassment toward a performer, and the response from a staff member / volunteer was perceived as dismissive. That experience reinforced their concern about clarity and training.
- Michael was more of the advocate for the vague language since we have more freedom to respond to different situations. Too-specific wording may create loopholes, and the policy is designed to go beyond minimum legal requirements and focuses on the impact of the recipient and not the intent of the offender.
- Offenders are already removed multiple times a year on average.
- Reasoning for the more direct language and terms include harm reduction, adopting a more survivor-centered approach and it helps with creatin consistency in enforcement.
- Lori- Two issues, tightening up the language using sexual harassment and assault is vague enough and at the same time it is an internal training thing and how do we deal with the fact that someone does have an accessibility or neurodivergent issue but at the same time they are doing something inappropriate, multiple things are being mixed there.
- Christina- At the board level we can choose to add more data points to the harassment policy which doesn’t feel it would be a problem since we wouldn’t get rid of the general language we would add on top, but for people getting removed and the reasoning that would be for the Detour Chair team and operations to decide.
- The Board will add more direct language to the policy.
- Sequeerity also proposed, having trained, trauma-informed volunteers on-site, providing a quiet space for affected individuals, and partnering with organizations for training.
- The Board determined that this was more of a operations decision, Accessibility and Operations may be the best groups for the training, and they were not opposed to the training but just that it will require internal coordination.
